Setting Intentions to Move Your Job/Career Search Forward

Last week, I had the pleasure to attend Marcia Wieder's Dream Coach University and learn a whole new set of tools and distinctions to help my clients move forward towards their dreams in their careers and in their lives in general.

One of the useful distinctions that came out of the week was the concept of setting intentions.

Basically, when we set intentions, we make it clear to ourselves and others what we want and what we're planning to do about it. If you subscribe to the notion that language is generative of realty, by the very act of declaring an intention, you change your reality in that very moment.

For instance, I've been very slow to get back to blogging after 10 days away from the office for vacation and this training. This morning, I set the intention to make an entry before the day was out and - voilĂ !

Setting intentions can be very helpful in the job search as well. Having trouble getting yourself to make those calls or send e-mails to request informational interviews? Set an intention right now for how many you're going to get done today and then tell somebody about it. Then keep your eyes and the prize and act with integrity - i.e., carry through with your intention and make contact!
