CEO Confidence in the American Economy Remains Pessimistic

According to an article in today's Silicon Valley Business Journal Online, "CEO confidence in the American economy remained pessimistic in May, with a significant number who believe the worst is yet to come, according to the monthly Chief Executive magazine CEO Index."

Some of the stats quoted were as follows:
  • 56% of CEO's described current conditions as "bad"
  • 25% expect the economy to gradually decline over the next quarter
  • 43% believe employment will shrink over the next quarter, vs. 16% who believe it will increase
  • 43% believe we've hit bottom, while 36% believe the worst is yet to come
