Some thoughts for the day on finding a job

Some thoughts for the day on finding a job:
  • Don't rely solely on internet job boards and headhunters
  • Tell everybody what kind of work and organizations you are looking for
  • Identify and network into target organizations
  • Stay connected with people by participating in group activities, volunteering, sitting on a non-profit board, running a charity activity, etc.
  • Consider starting a professional BLOG and personal resume web site
  • Research target companies and departments thoroughly, identify challenges where you can be of value, and make a targeted pitch to the hiring manager
  • Leverage existing networks: undergrad and grad school alumni, religious and cultural communities, circle of friends and acquaintances, on-line networks (LinkedIn, Plaxo, etc.).
  • Don't let fear of rejection or lack of confidence hold you back.
